Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa ordered immediate action to reactivate the State Engineering Corporation, which has suffered losses due to the Yahapalana government’s inefficient management and financial mismanagement, according to the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday (10).
The Prime Minister made this observation while taking part in a discussion on the current state of the State Engineering Corporation of Sri Lanka on Thursday at Temple Trees.
Several projects were implemented arbitrarily through the State Engineering Corporation during the previous period of good governance, and the Engineering Corporation has yet to receive billions of rupees due to them.
An official of the Engineering Corporation revealed that the services of the State Engineering Corporation had been obtained for the construction of the Sirikotha party headquarters and that no payment had been made for it so far.
The officials pointed out that a crisis has arisen in the State Engineering Corporation due to the Yahapalana government granting unqualified appointments and promotions.

Officials said that development work by the Engineering Corporation came to a standstill, due to the action taken by the government of good governance to stop several development projects initiated by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa during his presidency.
It was revealed that the C City Mall in Peliyagoda was just one such abandoned project. The shopping complex was recently reopened under the supervision of Indika Anuruddha, State Minister for Rural Housing, Construction and Building Materials Industry Promotion, and Yoshitha Rajapaksa, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, on the orders of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Prime Minister said that a common decision would be taken through discussions to restart the projects that have been stalled during the reactivation of the State Engineering Corporation and that the relevant departments would be informed about the necessary financial assistance.
The trade union representatives appreciated the positive response received from the Prime Minister at this meeting.
Minister Gamini Lokuge, State Minister Indika Anuruddha, Secretary to the Prime Minister Gamini Senarath, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister Chaminda Kularatne, Secretary to the State Ministry of Rural Housing and Construction Promotion Kirithi Ranjith Abeysiriwardena, Ratnasiri Kalupahana, Chairman of Sri Lanka Engineering Corporation and a group of officials representing the trade unions of the Engineering Corporation were present.
