President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has directed officials to immediately order necessary COVID vaccine stocks if a third dose is also required, based on health recommendations and taking into account the global situation.
Many of the world’s most powerful nations have already placed orders for the third round of vaccines. The President emphasized the importance of Sri Lanka paying close attention to this and preparing for the administration of the third dose.
He stated that there is a massive demand for vaccines from all over the world and that discussions have taken place with the leaders of many countries to request their assistance in obtaining more vaccines for Sri Lanka, despite the competitive situation.
The President also emphasized the importance of vaccinating all people over the age of 60, as well as close associates of infected patients who have already been identified, as soon as possible, given the large number of vaccines that have already been received.
At the same time, the President directed that all those suffering from non-communicable diseases be vaccinated.
More people being vaccinated can help to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic as well as the worsening of the condition of those who are infected, he said this evening at a meeting of the Covid-19 control committee at the Presidential Secretariat (10).
He also emphasized the importance of a transparent and methodical vaccination program. He stated that the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) has created special software to formalize the vaccination process and collect data from all vaccinated individuals. – PMD
