Sri Lanka’s nationwide inflation in February 2021 determined under the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) increased to 4.2 percent from 3.7 percent recorded in January on a year-on-year basis, the Department of Census and Statistics reported Monday.
The NCPI for all items for the month of February 2021 increased to 142.8 from 142.1 in the previous month.
The month-on-month change was contributed by increases of index value of food items by 0.42 percent and non-food items by 0.09 percent respectively.
Year-on-Year inflation of both food group and nonfood group have increased from 5.9 percent in January 2021 to 6.9 percent in February 2021 and from 1.8 percent in January 2021 to 1.9 percent in February 2021 respectively.
Contributions to the inflation rate of February 2021 from food group and non-food group are 3.19 percent and 1.04 percent respectively.
The moving average inflation for the month of February 2021 is 5.5 percent. The corresponding rate for the month of January was 5.8 percent.
