Seventy eight (78) sea turtle hatchlings emerged at the conservation unit and information centre at Panama managed under the Navy’s turtle conservation project, were released to the ocean, on 21st February 2021.
Sri Lanka Navy is implementing a turtle conservation project with the prime objective of conserving endangered sea turtles to help protect the biodiversity of marine ecosystem. Accordingly, these 78 sea turtles which emerged from the eggs hatched under the care of turtle conservation unit and information centre, Panama in Southeastern Naval Command were released to the ocean under the supervision of Deputy Area Commander South Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Neville Ubayasiri.
