Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thera has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament for the fourth time.
Rathana Thera took oaths this morning before House Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. Rathana Thera has been nominated to Parliament through the National List of Our Power of the People’s Party.
Rathana Thera was first elected to Parliament at the 2004 general election, contesting the Kalutara district under the Jathika Hela Urumaya ticket.
In 2010, Rathana Thera won a parliamentary seat by contesting the United People’s Freedom Alliance ticket from the Gampaha district.
The thera entered Parliament once again in 2015 through the national list of the then ruling United National Party.
Accordingly Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thera will become a four-time member of the Sri Lankan Parliament today.
Meanwhile, the Ninth Parliament this morning convened for the first time in 2021.
