According to State Minister Nimal Lansa, action will be taken to reopen airport for all commercial flights from 22 January.
He said that under special health supervision the airport will be opened while concentrating on the economy of the country.
“We hope that after 22 January all commercial aircraft will reach the country. Following security measures, the nation should be reopened.”
Dr Sudath Samaraweera, Chief Epidemiologist, said it wouldn’t be an issue to open airports in compliance with health laws.
Dr. Samaraweera said, “Tourism is a huge boost to the country’s economy. So there is an urgent need to restart the tourism industry. But we must do so in a way that does not allow the COVID-19 infected persons to roam freely in our country.”
