President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa came to Parliament yesterday (19) to take part in the second reading of the 2021 Budget, the Communications Department of Parliament said.
This is the first time since the official opening of the first session of the 9th Parliament that the President has joined the Chamber of Parliament.
The President arrived at the premises of Parliament at about 11.30 a.m. and remained for a short time in his office before arriving at the Chamber at around 11.40 a.m.
Amid a warm welcome from Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, he entered the Chamber and listened to the views of Opposition MP Tissa Attanayake, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe and Parliamentary Yadhamini Gunawardena.
The President then went to the Memorial Dining Hall, where they had lunch, joined by the Prime Minister, ministers, and representatives of the government. At about 01.50 pm, the President left Parliament’s premises.
