The plan to retire 560 SriLankan Airlines employees under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme at a cost of Rs.1.46 billion has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, the state information office said.
Due to the financial crisis faced by SriLankan Airlines Ltd, it was agreed to introduce the Voluntary Retirement Scheme, and a three-member committee headed by the Secretary to the State Ministry of Aviation and Export Zones Development was named to review the aforementioned matter.
The committee recommended that the new Voluntary Retirement Program be introduced for the next three years without hindrance to the company’s operations. Approximately 560 workers are likely to be retired under the scheme, and it is estimated that it would cost Rs. 1.46 billion.
The plan put forward by the Minister of Tourism for the introduction of the aforementioned retirement scheme has therefore been accepted by the Cabinet of Ministers.
