Local News: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa recently visited Colombo Port City on an observation tour to mark the 6th anniversary of the project to build a world-class city on 269 hectares of reclaimed land from the sea.
On his way to Port City, the Prime Minister observed its light yachting marina and the public beach. He then came to the Aqua Golf Course, which was under construction, and played golf.
The Prime Minister also planted a May tree in the Port City Central Park. The Prime Minister observed the model of the Port City under construction and inquired about the development of the infrastructure of the project.
The Colombo Port City, Sri Lanka’s largest development project, was launched on September 14, 2014 under the patronage of Chinese President Xi Jinping and the then President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The 269 hectares of sea has been reclaimed for the port city and the construction of the 3.2 km long breakwater has been completed.
A 2-kilometer long stretch of beach is now being developed and infrastructure development, including a beach stadium, beach park, children’s park, small restaurants, marina for boat transport services, is due to begin soon
Ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Johnston Fernando, State Ministers Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Lohan Ratwatte, Tharaka Balasuriya and Acting Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hu Wei were also present. More News
