Coronavirus Update | Sri Lanka: The person who passed away earlier last evening (14) at Chilaw Hospital has been classified as having been infected with COVID-19, the government information department has reported.
According to Dr Sudath Samaraweera of the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit, the deceased is a 60-year-old seaman who had been quarantined since returning from abroad.
He had arrived from Bahrain in Sri Lanka on September 02; however, at the point of arrival he was not listed as a COVID-19 patient.
He was admitted to Chilaw Hospital on September 09 over an illness. The closest cause of death is known to be a heart attack according to the Government Information Service.
This is the thirteenth death from the coronavirus pandemic recorded in Sri Lanka, the Department of Government Information said.
A total of 3,234 COVID-19 infections have been recorded within Sri Lanka so far. Of those, 3,005 have completely recovered from the infection.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, at selected hospitals around the country 217 suspected cases are currently undergoing medical treatment. More News
