Local News: Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Vijitha Herath has stated that the temporary power outages that have been in operation islandwide due to repairs at the Kerawalapitiya and Norochcholai power plants will not take place from Saturday (22).
The re-started Norochcholai power plant is scheduled to be connected to the main transmission line today (21). Accordingly, the CEB has informed the public that there will be no power cuts from Saturday.
There was a power outage island wide on the 17th due to a technical fault in the transmission system. Accordingly, the scheduled power outage for one hour and 45 minutes during the day and one hour during the night until the generating supply of the system is restored will not be operational from tomorrow (22).
The committee appointed by Power and Energy Minister Dullas Alahapperuma to investigate the power outage also met Wednesday (19)and Thursday (20) to inquire into the sudden islandwide power failure. The report of the committee will be issued within a week and the committee will provide recommendations to prevent power outages in the future.
