Local News Sri Lanka: A special investigation unit said it would not summon cricketers to record statements as part of its ongoing probe into the final of the 2011 World Cup.
Investigators had recorded statements from the then chief selector, Aravinda de Silva, Upul Tharanga, and Kumar Sangakkara who was part of the team that was playing the World Cup tournament. But SIU did not take place Mahela Jayawardene’s inquiry today.
However, the investigation unit, sufficient evidence has been recorded and a report on the investigation will be submitted to the sports ministry secretary.
After the then sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage claimed the final between Sri Lanka and India had been fixed, the Special Investigation Unit on the Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports opened a probe.
