Local News: The Post Department has agreed to discontinue with effect from tomorrow (15) the process of supplying prescription medication from government hospitals and government pharmacies to individuals.
Post-Master General Ranjith Ariyaratne said in a statement released today (14) that appropriate steps will be taken to establish a proper mechanism for this, because the health sector and consumers have made requests for the continuation of this process.
At the request of the Presidential Task Force on Vital Services in the COVID-19 epidemic, the Postal Department assumed the task of handing over prescription medicines provided by the government hospitals and medication ordered from government pharmacies to related persons.
“I would like to thank all the Postal Department workers who have committed themselves to making this mission effective and secure,” the Post-Master General said in his speech.
The government has restored normalcy and, Mr Ariyaratne added, the postal department is resuming its normal duties.
Accordingly, priority should be given to the Department’s normal duties and forthcoming election duties, and it is difficult for the staff to carry on the process of distributing medicines to the persons concerned, he noted.
