Local News: The Ministries of Education and Health are due to meet today to discuss school reopening. It has already been decided, however, that G.C.E. (A.L.) classes would start first, and then the G.C.E. (O.L.) would follow, Minister of Education , Sports, and Youth Affairs Dullas Alahapperuma said.
He said all schools across the country should be disinfected soon so students could easily resume their studies, adding that an estimated amount of Rs.680 million is to be spent on the endeavour.
In addition, all schools with less than 200 students will each receive Rs.30,000 for sanitary facilities, the Health Minister said.
He also shared his disappointment in some teacher trade unions, spreading misinformation on social media that parents would soon be asking the government for financial donations to disinfect schools and provide them with financial aid for health facilities.
