Business News: The prolonged curfew in Colombo and Gampaha districts gravely limited the access to vehicle servicing and repairs. Moreover, motor vehicles not being used for an elongated period of time were more likely to develop problems due to being idle. LAUGFS Car Care, recognizing the need in the market for such services, was the first to initiate an operational model to reach out to customers that were confined to their homes.
The LAUGFS Car Care mobile service concept allowed all motor vehicle owners to reach out to technical professionals through Facebook or the dedicated hotline and state their need for service, thereafter customers were provided with an appointment, which was honoured within 24 hours of making the request.
Once a customer had made their appointment, the LAUGFS Car Care team visited their residence to fulfil the service requirement. The services that were offered through this mobile service were mainly three-fold. Lubricant/filter change for full-service dues/oil drainages; battery replacements/re-charging or any other electrical issues due to the sedentary condition of the motor vehicles and technical assistance through engine scan/vehicle inspection, thereafter addressing any repairs that were needed.
The mobile service teams provided this service in all of Colombo extending up to Panadura, Piliyandala, Kottawa, Hokandara, Malabe, Mahabage and Galle Road, with plans to expand due to popular demand. Alternatively, if a customer was equipped with a valid curfew pass, teams were allocated at LAUGFS Car Care Bellanthara, Koswatta, Kalagedihena and Negombo to carry out location services focusing on customers involved in essential services.

LAUGFS Car Care laid special emphasis on the safety of their customers and employees, therefore all employees that visited homes used protective gear to defend against any form of contamination. Before the mobile unit was sent out for an appointment, the entire vehicle, tools and machinery used were sprayed to decontaminate and sanitize. The teams kept minimum contact with the vehicle interior for safety of both the customer and the crew. If there was a need for the technician to interact with the vehicle interior, disposable gear covers, seat covers, steering wheel covers were used prior to contact.
Commenting on the new model, Niroshan J. Pieries, Chief Executive Officer of LAUGFS Lubricants Ltd and LAUGFS Petroleum (Pvt) Ltd, said, “At LAUGFS Car Care, we are constantly developing new methods and models to cater to the needs of our customer. The mobile service model was our latest initiative in ensuring that we can serve our customers no matter the circumstance. Our customers always come first and we wanted to invent a mechanism that ensured an uninterrupted service from LAUGFS Car Care despite the challenging operational environment.”
Since the commencement of this service on 13th of April 2020, over thousand inquiries were handled by the team which received many positive feedback as can be witnessed by their social media reviews.
LAUGFS Holdings Limited is one of the largest diversified business conglomerates and a trusted and well-loved home grown business in Sri Lanka.
