Local News: Importing motor vehicles and luxury goods was absolutely banned, said Minister Bandula Gunawardena, a spokesperson for the Joint Cabinet.
He said importation of essential goods into the country is not prohibited.
The Joint Cabinet Spokesperson, however, went on to say that importers are advised to negotiate credit terms with their suppliers over a period of 180 days with regard to the importation of non-essential goods that customers need at large.
According to Minister Bandula Gunawardena, permission will be given for those imports if importers can reach terms with suppliers on the above.
Joint Cabinet spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had tabled the respective notification to the Gazette.
