Local News: The government has arranged quarantine for Sri Lankans returning from abroad to spend their compulsory quarantine period at a cost at a hotel and, as they pleased, said Chief of Defense Staff and Army Commander Shavendra Silva.
Some Sri Lankans who could bear the quarantine expense have expressed their willingness to spend their compulsory quarantine spell in privacy and more comfort. With greatly reduced room rates we can arrange a hotel for them. Hotel management, for example, has told us that they could offer less than half of the usual cost to a hotel room.
He said that several hotels were prepared for this purpose and for a nominal fee, Sri Lankans can pick a hotel. “Typically one of these rooms is priced between Rs 20,000-40,000 per day. With everything included, including food, the owners have decided to offer a room for Rs 7,500 per day. Hoteliers do not benefit from offering meals three times a day and everything else for such a small price. He said only those undergoing quarantine at the selected hotels would be permitted.
But the decision whether to undergo a quarantine spell privately or in a quarantine center run by the armed forces is entirely up to the return of Sri Lankans, Mr. Silva stressed and added that the armed forces is willing to quarantine any number of Sri Lankans before the viral infection is completely managed.
