Local News: Strict legal action will be taken against anyone making defamatory, malicious social media posts about public servants who are battling the country’s COVID-19 outbreak, police media reports.
The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has given orders to the Department of Criminal Investigation DIG and all the OICs around the island to apprehend and bring these individuals before the courts.
The Police Headquarters underlines the effort of the public sector to monitor the spread of COVID-19 virus in Sri Lanka.
However, there have been instances of videos and posts on social media containing misleading or deceptive material that are critical of and undermining the work of public servants.
Accordingly, individuals engaged in these practices will be dealt with strict legal proceedings as per the Acting IGP’s orders, the Police Media further said.
