Local News Update: Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says Switzerland is very pleased with the way the Sri Lankan government treated the incident involving the Swiss embassy staff allegedly involved in an abduction case.
Speaking at yesterday’s press conference in Colombo (01), the minister said the two countries will continue to further strengthen their bilateral ties.
The statement issued by the Swiss embassy and its special agent three days ago, Gunawardena pointed out clearly the validity of the procedure followed by the Sri Lankan government.
The aforementioned statement says, according to the Minister, that Switzerland has no qualms about acting in accordance with the country’s law and that the Schengen nation looks forward to continuing bilateral friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Switzerland.
The Gunawardena said they had to think about the country in the future, pointing out that the incident was originally an attempt to show something damaging to the government.
The foreign minister said that their confidence in Sri Lanka had been confirmed by the statement issued by Switzerland.
