Local News Update: Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera instructed officials from the Railway Department to initiate a pilot program to transform all railway stations under the Green (Haritha) concept from Dematagoda Railway Station on January 1.
He said that all railway stations should be transformed into Green (Haritha) railway stations under the Green Places and Cities for Health and Prosperity model.
The minister said that the Kandy Railway Station could be listed as the cleanest railway station. He said that through Green Economic initiatives the government will initiate the program giving priority to nature and promoting sustainable development in Sri Lanka.
To draw local and foreign passengers, all of the country’s railway stations would be transformed into beautiful green stations. The most desirable green railway station will be chosen from March to July next year, according to the plan.
