Local News Update: The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon marked International Migrants Day with the participation of the Sri Lankan Migrant Community on 22nd December 2019. The theme was “Migration with Dignity”. The ceremony was inaugurated by Ambassador Shani Calyaneratne Karunaratne.
Counselor Employment & Promotion P.K.T.Hettiarachchi addressed the gathering and Explained the Migrant workers Registration, protection and Welfare facilities given by the SLBFE. The talk of Second Secretary (Labour) T. Luxmidharan was on Undocumented workers and Illegal worker problems and how the embassy could provide embassy assistance for the betterment of them.
Dr. Ms. Lara from the IOM delivered a speech on the prevention of HIV AIDS. The expatriates in Lebanon exhibited Singing and dancing talents.
The representatives from the International Organization of Migration in Lebanon, International Labour Organization, Non-Governmental Organizations, and Civil Society were among the participants.
