Economy News Update: National inflation in Sri Lanka decreased from 5.6 percent in October to 4.1 from 12 months to November 2019, but prices rose by 0.8 percent in the month. The National Consumer Price Index rose to 132.9 points, up from a 1 percent increase in October, to 0.8 percent in the month of November.
In November, the food sub-index jumped 1.8% on top of a 2.3% increase in October.
For big onions, fresh fish, bananas, papaw, mangoes and limes, the price decreases of food items have been recorded.
Rice, tomatoes, red onions, coconuts, potatoes, green chilies, chili powder, milk powder and coconut oil have been reported to increase the price of food items.
Core inflation, reflecting the underlying inflation without the inclusion of volatile food and fuel goods, declined from 5.6% in October 2019 to 5.5% in November.
