Local News Update: Prime Minister and who is also Urban Development and Housing Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to launch a new housing program to build a new house in each of the 14,022 villages in the country.
According to a media statement released by the Ministry of Urban Development Water Supply and Housing Facilities, the program implemented with the assistance of Samurdhi officers would tackle the most poverty-stricken family in each village. The Prime Minister has instructed State Minister Indika Anuruddha in the coming year to complete the construction of these houses under the dream of’ Gamata Geyak.’
In the near future, the Prime Minister said his ministry is going to implement several other housing and other programs in the country.
Despite the previous government’s loud bragging about housing programs, fewer than 7000 houses had been built over the past four and a half years, he said.
