Local News from Sri Lanka: The Sri Lanka Singers ‘ Association has paid tribute to President Maithripala Sirisena for his contribution to artists ‘ welfare, including the promotion of their pension benefits, over the past five years. On Monday, a special gathering arranged by the Sri Lankan Singers ‘ Association to thank the President was held at the President’s House.
Expressing his views, the President said that a humanistic country will emerge within an artistic society where all people live in peace, harmony and the spirit of brotherhood. President Sirisena recalled that in his 52 years of political life as well as in his lifetime, he was pleased with his efforts to save the future generation from the drug threat. He also said they could play a larger role as artists in making this project a success.
In this regard, the President asked them to commit themselves entirely. Many famous singers, including Janaka Wickramasinghe, President of the Sri Lankan Singers ‘ Association, were present on the occasion.
