Local News from Sri Lanka: The book titled “Asgiri Maha Viharaya and the First Freedom Fight in 1818” written recalling the first Freedom struggle staged against the British rule was launched under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Asgiriya Pirivena on Monday.
The book composed to highlight the importance of the first freedom struggle and the contribution made by the MahanayakaTheros of Asgiri Chapter was edited by Ven. Atipola MahindaThero, Ven. Katakumbure DharmaramaThero, Ven. Ehelepola MahindaThero and Dr. Ajith Thalwatta.
This comprehensive volume includes information on every aspect of the freedom struggle based on the details gained through historical sources. The Asgiriya Chapter is known to take the right decision at every decisive juncture and it was Ven. Wariyapola Sumangala Thero of the Asgiri Chapter who launched the first domestic resistance against British rule.
