The World Tourism Organization of the United Nations has proclaimed World Tourism Day since 1998 on 27 September. Celebrating World Tourism Day is aimed at raising awareness about the role of tourism around the world and promoting social, cultural, political and economic values.
The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day is “Tourism and Jobs: a Better Future for All” Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau made arrangements to celebrate World Tourism Day with foreign visitors visiting Sri Lanka at Bandaranaike International Airport on September 27.
In front of the Sri Lankan Tourism Travel Information Counter, a special ceremony was arranged all day long with cultural performance and serving traditional Sri Lankan sweets for the arriving visitors. Many visitors who came participated in the traditional sweets tasting festivities and enjoying Sri Lankan dance.
There were guests from the Netherlands, Australians, British, German, Chinese and Indian. A bigger group of Netherlands Fox Verre Reizen and Australia Travel Marvel. Most of them toured Sri Lanka for the first time and stated that with the hot hospitality of Srilankans they look forward to a wonderful stay in Sri Lanka.
