Local News from Sri Lanka: The Attorney General’s Department says it has concluded a total of 10,093 lawsuits over the course of this year. At a media briefing, the Attorney General’s Coordinating Officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said this. She said 6,695 lawsuits have been directed at high courts across the country over the previous eight months, adding that the Attorney General has instructed the police station to do so.
The Attorney General also gave directions on 1,533 instances for acquittal rulings, Jayaratne continued. 5,169 criminal cases and 4,924 cases related to child abuse were also found, according to the managing officer of AG. She added that this is a historical record marked by the Department of the Attorney General.
