Economy News from Sri Lanka: Ten coconut exporters from Sri Lanka were housed in the CDA Pavilion and four businesses from Ceylon Tea were under the Pavilion of the Tea Board. Furthermore, eight individual Sri Lankan exporters representing food industries participated in Find Food Australia 2019 and promoted Sri Lankan value-added food products.
The company delegation for the coconut industry in Sri Lanka was resulted by CDA Chairman Udaya Rupasinghe. The Sri Lankan food protests using coconut products were the highlight of the CDA pavilion this year. This initiative was first launched at an international food exhibition by the CDA to popularize the use of coconut products among buyers and customers.
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka arranged a business breakfast networking conference for exporters from Sri Lanka inviting Australian food importers and retailers during Fine Food Australia. Sampath Samarawickrema, CDA’s Director / Marketing, presented the types of value-added Sri Lankan coconut products that can be catered to Australian customers by Sri Lankan providers to the crowd.
At this B2B meeting, Consul General, Lal Wickrematunge and Consul Commercial, Abdul Raheem of the Sri Lankan Consulate General in Sydney also discussed the possibilities for business development with Australia and the significance of market presence in Australia for Sri Lankan products. The interactions were attended by representatives from Australia’s Export Council, New South Wales Business Chamber, Australian Business Summit Council and Austrade / DFAT. Roy McCullah from the Australian Trade and Logistics Corporation gave Australia a brief presentation on support for market entry.
