Economy News from Sri Lanka: In 2019, Sri Lanka enhanced paddy (rough rice) output from both growing seasons to 4,613 million metric tons, up 5.5 percent from an initial estimate, and up 17 percent from last year, state agricultural officials said.
It is estimated that 1,540 paddies will be produced after crop damage in the continuing Yala season, up from a previous prediction of 1,47 million metric tons.
The Yala prediction this year is approximately the same as 1,53 million tons generated in 2018.
1.38 million tons of paddy will be accessible from the Yala crop for milling after waste and seed paddy requirements. There will be approximately 940,000 metric tons of milled rice for consumption.
The final primary Maha rice production is now estimated at 3,073 million metric tons, up 28% from last year and up 5.9% from a preliminary estimate.
For the complete year, there would be 4,613 million tons of crop and 2,88 million tons of milled rice.
