Local News from Sri Lanka: In the context of the continuing heavy rains, a Disaster Management Center released a landslide alert for several districts.
Kiriella, Kalawana, Ratnapura, Eheliyagoda Divisional Secretariat and surrounding places in Ratnapura District, Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat Division and adjacent areas in Nuwaraeliya District, Warakapola Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in Kegalle District are prone to landslides, according to the notice.
Due to the active cloudiness in the Southern, Western and South-Eastern Sea fields, there is a strong chance of heavy showers / thundershowers and sudden roughness connected with the sudden rise in wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the above-mentioned marine fields.
Since the rainfall has exceeded 75 mm in the past 24 hours if the rain continues, the DMC advised individuals to watch for landslides, slope failures, rock falls and soil subsidence.
Communities are advised to follow the Disaster Management Center’s instructions.
