Local News from Sri Lanka: President Maithripala Sirisena inaugurates MAS Athena, Thulhiriya, of the Asia-Pacific Association of Tropical Biology and Conservation (10). President Sirisena pointed out that it is vital to maintain human beings and the environment in a healthy way in a timely way to ensure sustainable human and social life.
The President also said that in the worldwide sustainability environment management process, individuals residing in tropical Asia have a crucial role to play. The reason for this is that it is wealthy in natural resources and biodiversity, including many species of agricultural value, geographically and economically. The President added that re-planting isolated forests would help preserve these isolated forests and guarantee the flora and fauna’s future survival.
Strong deliberation on the significance of protecting biodiversity has already been developed in tropical countries. Therefore, hosting this landmark event is Sri Lanka’s accomplishment, the president added.
The President also stressed the fact that animals in Sri Lanka are contaminating a big quantity of food and said he expected the meeting specialists to pay attention to this problem and come up with a sustainable solution.
The Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation’s 13th Asia-Pacific Conference will proceed until 13 September with the joint cooperation of Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry, Colombo University, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and numerous other stakeholders in the private and public sector.
President planted a sapling tree to mark the event’s opening. Among the distinguished gatherings were State Minister Ajith Manapperuma, Parliament leaders Thilanga Sumathipala, Lasantha Alagiyawant to, Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake and several Other Ministry Secretaries, French Ambassador to Sri Lanka Erik Lavertu.
