Development News from Sri Lanka: Under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, the construction of the Fisheries Harbor in Point Pedro began. The proposed fishing harbor was set up as part of the Sustainable Fisheries Development Project of the Northern Province with the objective of offering livelihood possibilities in the Northern Peninsula.
Point Pedro Fisheries Harbor will be the country’s biggest fishing harbor and Rs.12.600 million is estimated to cost the project.
The meeting was attended by Minister P. Harrison, Abdul Haleem, Governor of the Northern Province Suren Raghavan, Angajan Ramanathan, Cadar Mastan, M. A. Sumanthiran, Mavai Senathirajah, Dharmalingam Siddarthan, representatives of the people of the region, Secretary of President Udaya R. Seneviratne, public servants and others.
