Development News from Sri Lanka: Under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena in Wadamarachhci, the building work of the biggest drinking water supply project in Sri Lanka by harvesting rainwater began on 30th August 2019.
This project was carried out under the president’s guidance to provide a sustainable solution to the Jaffna people’s drinking water issue. The project’s estimated expense is Rs.02bn. A major problem is the lack of access to water in the district of Jaffna. It is expected that the project started by the Irrigation Department will be finished within two years.
On this occasion, Minister P. Harrison, Governor Suren Raghavan of the Northern Province, representatives of the people of the region, government authorities and others took part.
The President, meanwhile, participated at the Northen Water International Conference in Chunnakam, Jaffna.
This conference, aimed at the Northern Province’s sustainable water management, will take place today and tomorrow.
