Business News from Sri Lanka: The National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel recently signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura to co-create and co-innovate in the fields of telecommunications, 5 G, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and more–with both sides exchanging their corresponding fields of expertise and knowledge towards the common objective of cooperative work.
For the above-mentioned cause, Mobitel will work with the University’s Faculty of Engineering (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering). This MoU is a promising academic and industrial union to give the nation new research and development. The main advantage of this cooperation will be the precious exposure learners will gain from the recent telecommunications-related techniques, facilitating further experimentation and innovation before entering the marketplace or on their entrepreneurial trip.
Occasionally commenting, P. G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena–Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom and Mobitel said, “We are happy to sign this MoU with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura because we think that cooperation with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Faculty of Engineering can bring tremendous advantages to each of us, which will eventually benefit the country’s people. The university has already proved its skills in generating skilled engineers, and Mobitel will also benefit from this research and development agreement, which has unfailingly expanded innovation limits with an inclusive strategy. Prof. Sampath Amaratunge— Sri Jayewardenepura University Vice-Chancellor said, “We are pleased to have Mobitel take such an interest in partnering with college learners who, in turn, will benefit from working with telecommunications associated technology professionals. We welcome this MoU as the best way to foster innovation as a collaboration between academia and businesses to drive more possibilities.
