Local News from Sri Lanka: Health authorities in Sri Lanka have stepped up their reaction to dengue in an attempt to prevent further spread of mosquito-borne dengue fever in many areas of the nation with heavy rains.
Health officials recorded 42,051 total cases with the Western Province seeing most of them in the country through August 28.
The district of Colombo alone reported the largest total of 8,808 dengue instances. The district of Gampaha reported the second-largest amount of instances of dengue, 6,388, while the district of Galle recorded 4,337 instances of dengue.
A total of 62 patients with clinically demonstrated dengue died as at this year’s August 23. There are a few more fatalities recorded during this era, but so far, Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe has not been verified as’ dengue fatalities.’
According to information from the Epidemiology Unit, this shows a worsening of the scene relative to the 58 dengue fatalities recorded throughout 2018.
Dr. Jasinghe said that their messaging to the public was intensified by the health officials. With barely two weeks to go, school officials were warned to clean up mosquito breeding sites situated in and around schools early next month before the end of the school holiday.
