Local News from Sri Lanka: Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihara’s final Randholi Perahera will parade the streets on August 24. Now the Rajamaha Vihara’s 69th annual Esala Maha Perahera Festival is taking place on a large scale.
The festival began on August 4 with the opening of a memorial hall to commemorate the late Chief Incumbent, Ven, pioneer of the Bellanwila Esala Festival. Bellanwila Sri Somaratana Nayake Thera and Bellanwila Temple’s late chief incumbent, Ven. Anunayake Thera, Prof. Bellanwila Wimalaratana.

The chanting of Sathi Pirith started on August 11 and continued until August 16.
The Dorakada Asna program and Devadutha Perahera will be conducted after the chanting of Sathi Pirith. The Kumble Perahera will start on August 17 and on August 18, 19, 20 and 21 the Mal Perahera will parade the streets.
The Perahera Pavada will take place on August 22 and the Perahera Ransivili on August 23. The pageant will conclude on August 25 at the Boralesgamuwa ferry with the water cutting ceremony. After almsgiving, the ceremony will end.
