The year’s Commando Regiment (CR) pride,’ Commando Challenge-2019′ at Kuda Oya with riders and drivers including Army riders came off the floor on Sunday (4) in the presence of a huge crowd of supporters and spectators.
The event was graced by Major General Shavendra Silva, Regiment Colonel, Commando Regiment, Chairman, Commando Challenge Supercross and Army Chief of Staff as Chief Guest, along with Commando Regiment Senior Officers and Sri Lankan Racing Drivers and Riders Association (SLARDAR) representatives.
The highly anticipated Supercross, organized in close cooperation with SLARDAR and Hutchison Telecommunication Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, took place on one of the longest, widest and fastest tracks in the nation where history speaks of the region as the primary training ground for the warriors of King Dutugemunu centuries ago.
A total of 13 racing car events and 12 motorbike events thrilled the crowd where a variety of skilled, finest and fastest drivers and riders in the country were competing for supremacy under the supervision of SLARDAR veterans.
At the end of the day’s event, Major General Shavendra Silva gave the winners in racing and riding trophies, prizes and cash gifts, including those competing in events designed for young people.
Ashan Silva clinched the Best Driver Trophy and Jacques Gunawardana was awarded the Best Rider Trophy with amazing performances and got their awards from Chief Guest Major General Shavendra Silva as well as some eye-catching performances from the military drivers.
Senior Officers, Sponsors & Commando Regiment Chairman Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs Sujeewa Nelson handed out trophies and certificates to the winners of the corresponding activities.
