At the end of the ODI series three-game against Bangladesh, Sri Lankan President Shammi Silva said that Sri Lanka will have a fresh cricket head trainer
“The entire coaching department is being refurbished and everybody has been requested to resign. At the end of this month, the agreements for 99% of trainers expire. You can apply for the post again if you are interested in concluding a fresh agreement. We’re going to make an assessment from there and see who is good enough for the positions, “Silva said.
The agreement will last until December next year only for head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and Silva said that SLC would hold discussions and transmit the message to the minister of sport. The Minister of Sports Harin Fernando had called on Sri Lanka Cricket to replace the entire national team coaching employees after a World Cup 2019 in which Sri Lanka could not qualify for the knockout phase, with three victories and four losses, finishing sixth in the league standings.
“Chandika, too, is a Sri Lankan so we don’t just like that want to dump him. We’ll talk to him and see how best to fix it, “Silva said.
If Hathurusingha will not be retained as Head Coach, Sri Lanka Cricket may be asked to serve in another coaching position until its agreement expires.
After a good stay with Bangladesh in 2017 Hathurusingha, however, has until now not been able to achieve the same outcomes with the Sri Lankan squad and is under excellent pressure to replace him.
The President of the SLC said he is currently in conversation with trainers worldwide.
“A few of them who trained Sri Lanka before,” Silva says. “A minimum of ten highly qualified trainers from all over the globe have shown interest.
“We didn’t ask them to apply for a post, but we talk to them one-on-one since there is a danger that their names will always leak to the public when applying. Some coaches who show interest are coaching various nations, and it is not good for them if their names are leaked out. After the Bangladesh series, we’ll have a fresh trainer, “he said.
