It’s the fourth-generation-Benz C-Class, one out of five sold Mercs is a C-Class, and if you lump in the ancient 190 saloons that came before it, it’s a vehicle that has sold almost ten million units since 1982.
Not a vehicle you want to mess up then, yet Mercedes defines this as the car’s largest update ever; more than 6,500 parts have altered, almost 50% of the entire vehicle. If you think it looks amazingly like the ancient vehicle (for one that seems to be so unique), then almost all of these parts are in a brand fresh electrical design–transplanted from the S-Class to unlock loads of fresh security tech and self-driving potential–and a couple of fresh motors.
In the aftermath of Dieselgate, which the motors of Merc were not untouched by, perhaps the most exciting is the brand-new petrol choice. The C200 is the UK’s entry-level C-Class, and while its name refers to a 2.0-liter engine, it effectively utilizes four-cylinder 1.5-liter petrol. However, it does not operate alone and is associated with some smart (if slightly confusing) mild-hybrid tech that adds to a complete economy of 182bhp and 46mpg.
If you tick the correct boxes elsewhere, you can have all kinds of tech on board, not least some satnav-linked cruise control that paves the way for future Merc self-driving saloons. Energizing Comfort’ is also available, combining massage seat features, climate control, and ambient lighting to relax behind the wheel. One mode sees it imitating a beach walk… The C-Class also features some of the most customizable digital dials we’ve ever seen in a vehicle, inherited from the E-and S-Class above. In reality, the entire thing is absurdly customizable. Mercedes intended four distinct trimming levels, each with a completely distinct bumper design, while the 2018 update of the C-Class added three fresh colors and 20 (yes, 20) fresh alloy wheel designs.
Add to that a gigantic range of motors, four-wheel drive accessibility and your selection of saloon, estate, sedan, and cabriolet body styles, and you can lose weeks in the Merc retailer trying to find out which vehicle you want to purchase.

Technology
The C-Class doesn’t just look strong and poised. With more horses, nine speeds, and the conventional all-wheel-drive 4MATIC year-round grip, the C-Class has the agility, strength, and confidence to match the beauty of its well-toned body. In the new C 300 engine, a twin-scroll turbo, direct injection and CAMTRONIC valve setup team up for 255 hp. Unleashing all 273 lb-ft torque from just 1,800 rpm, it also reinforces fuel consumption in the city or on the road.
The 9G-TRONIC transmission enables to maintain the energy of the turbo engine on the spot. Shift paddles allow you to take responsibility for its nine speeds, while three overdrive ratios give relaxed motorway cruising.
DYNAMIC SELECT dials a console key in the performance personality of the car. Five modes, from easy ECO to sharp Sport+, differ in shift points, throttle response, steering sensation and more. Or generate an individual mode of your own.
The C-Class is entering a fresh innovation generation with more sophisticated driver support, user-friendly new techniques, and more thoughtful luxuries. With 64 LED ambient lighting colors, you can even alter the style of the cabin
