The Government of Sri Lanka signed a formal participation contract with the “Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau,” on 08 July 2019, with Sri Lanka officially approved as a participant of World Expo 2020 Dubai. Nalin Bandara, Deputy Minister of Development Strategies & International Trade, resulted in the high-level delegation to the UAE for the signing ceremony. In his presence Nalin Bandara, Supreme Minister of Development Strategy and International Trade, Mr. Indira Malwatte, Chairman and CEO of the Sri Lankan Export Developing Board as Commissar General of Expo 2020 Dubai for Sri Lanka, signed a Sri Lankan Official Participation Contract with M. Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director of the Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau.
During the ceremony of signing the contract, the delegation toured the Expo site and the delegates from Sri Lanka were also able to visit the currently being built Sri Lankan Pavilion.
Najeeb Ali informed about the advancement in the building of the Expo Dubai 2020, as well as the agreements. He clarified further that 192 nations have already confirmed their involvement, with dedicated pavilions for the individual nations as the world’s most varied EXPO.
The UAE government’s support for Sri Lanka to have the Assisted Pavilion was valued by Minister Nalin Bandara. He explaining that in the future Sri Lanka is looking for more partnerships and invited Najeeb Ali and his staff to Sri Lanka for the short EXPO launch.
Ms. Malwatte described the extensive fieldwork undertaken by the Sri Lankan Sea up to now in preparing for her involvement with the Expo Organizers.
She pointed out that the pavilion of Sri Lanka will be organized under the “water” theme of a Public-Private Partnership model developed by Moratuwa University learners.
She added that during the six months of EXPO Sri Lanka, under the broader theme of the “Iceland of Ingénuity,” the major fields highlighted in the National Export Strategy (NES) will be represented and cross-sectional events coordinated with the “Water” theme will be held.
Exhibition “Linked minds and build the future,” which welcomes more than 190 participating nations and over 25 million visitors from across the globe to build, cooperate and innovate to build a sustainable future, is the most anticipated exhibit in the United African Emirates Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Expo 2020 Dubai is the world’s host for 173 days from October 20, 2020, through April 10, 2021, and covers 438 acres of territory near Dubai.
Charitha Yattogoda, the Sri Lankan Consul General in Dubai, the Sri Lankan Embassy officials in Abu Dhabi and the consular office in Dubai have been among the representatives.
