A new Cancer Treatment Centre is to be built at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle with labour expertise of the Sri Lanka Navy. According to Navy media, the foundation laying ceremony of the proposed Palliative Care Centre was held on Monday (15 July).
The new medical center will be constructed with financial provisions provided by the Sri Lankan Cancer Association and donors with their knowledge and labor from the Sri Lankan Navy. Once the new medical facility has been completed, care will be provided to patients with cancer from around the island.
Members of the Maha Sangha, District Secretary for Galle, Mr. Somarathna Vidanapathirana, Commander, Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul, Director, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Dr. G. Wijesooriya, senior state officials, representatives of the Sri Lanka Cancer Association and members of the hospital staff were present at foundation laying ceremony, yesterday.
