At its 180th AGM on Friday, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) appointed Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya as its new chairman.
Dr. Wijayasuriya, Corporate Executive Vice President and Regional Chief executive of Axiata Group Berhad, South Asia Group Executive Vice President and Regional CEO Berhad Malaysia–Asia’s second-biggest telecommunications group.
The participation of Dr. Wijayasuriya in the telecommunications sector spans 25 years–both in Sri Lanka and in several Asian markets. Aptly, Hans was awarded the 2016 “Outstanding Contribution to the Asian Mobile Industry” Award by the GSM Association as the first recipient.
Before assuming regional management duties, Hans resulted in Dialog Axiata for 19 years, during which time the firm moved from being the fourth entrant to Sri Lanka’s mobile industry to becoming the country’s leading multi-play connectivity supplier and one of Colombo’s largest valued companies on the stock exchange.
He is also a John Keells Holdings PLC’s Independent, Non-Executive Director Dr. Wijayasuriya is an S student. In 1989, Thomas ‘ College Mt. Lavinia graduated from Cambridge University UK. Subsequently, in 1994, he received his PhD in Digital Mobile Communications from Bristol University UK. Dr. Wijayasuriya also holds an MBA from the University of Warwick UK, a chartered engineer and fellow of the Institute of Engineering Technology UK.
