Mohamed Salah created one and scored one as Egypt’s hosts beat DR Congo 2-0 to move into the Africa Cup of Nations’ last 16.
Egypt advanced when Aston Villa’s Ahmed Elmohamady, who completed in the second attempt, encountered Salah’s cross. Following a good run from Trezeguet, Liverpool forward Salah added a second with a strong strike when surrounded by two DR Congo players.
Egypt’s seven-time winners join Nigeria in the competition’s last 16. In the opening game on Wednesday, the Super Eagles beat Guinea 1-0 to become the first nation in the knockout phase.
