From today, police press spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekara said, traffic lane law will be implemented strictly in major cities. The two week grace period for motorists to get used to traffic lanes, which was introduced from May 27, ended yesterday.
Under Sri Lanka’s Motor Traffic Act, all cars will have to operate on the left hand unless they overtake a car or turn right. The Bus Lane Law introduced in 2015 will also be strictly enforced from today onwards, Gunasekara said.
“The new initiative is aimed at alleviating congestion and also minimizing the number of accidents,” he said and asked everyone’s support.
