Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga will now be available to the Mumbai Indians throughout April as Sri Lanka Cricket gave permission to skip the ODI domestic Super Provincial Cup tournament he was previously expected to participate in.
“SLC decided to give Lasith Malinga permission to play in the current IPL. The management decided to release Malinga from participating in the Super Provincial; as he would have a chance to play in IPL with much stronger opposition; which is made up of international players, “Sri Lanka Cricket posted on Twitter on Tuesday. This SLC decision comes on the back of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intervention, which wanted to ensure maximum availability of prominent overseas players in the IPL in the first half at least.
Nevertheless, Malinga is keen to participate in the domestic tournament because as the captain of the limited-overs team in Sri Lanka, he wants to look closely at some of the players that can feature in the Sri Lankan World Cup squad. SLC had a different view of Malinga’s participation in the IPL earlier than on 22 March, the board stated that Malinga had to play in the provincial ODI tournament
